Guide Review - Julie Roberts - Men & Mascara
It will take a whole lot more than new "Paint and Pillows" to mend hurt feelings in the album's first song. "I'd rather strike a match and watch it go up in smoke" than to take him back, Julie sings. After singing a song about never wanting to take a man back, she sings about always loving him in "Smile." Seeing him with another woman makes her want to cry because he is having a good time and when he smiles it takes her back to the happy times they shared together. "Men & Mascara" is the album's first single and is about how one minute a man can "say she's the one," only to be dumped the next day. The woman is left wondering if she went too slow or "put it on too strong."
"Girl Next Door" is a song about a girl who is envious of popular cheerleader / prom queen because it seems like she gets everything. "Everybody loves her - I just want to hit her." Instead of loving herself for who she is, she focuses on someone else. "Mama Don't Cry" is about a girl who is trying to make a life for herself and she re-assures her mom that she was raised right and things will be okay. The last song on the album is "All I Want Is You," which is about a woman who finds it hard to move on when he's gone.
