Guide Review - Montgomery Gentry - Something To Be Proud Of: Best of 1999 - 2005
It's hard to believe Montgomery Gentry have been around since 1999, but they have and now seems like the perfect time for them to release a 'Best Of' collection. What I like most about a hits collection, is the fact you get to experience just how much (or how little) the artist's style of music changed throughout the years. I must say that Montgomery Gentry has been consistent throughout the years while taking their music to another level. The one truly "new" song on the album is "She Don't Tell Me To," where a man is thankful to be married to a woman who gives him the freedom to be his own person. It makes him appreciate her more and do romantic things like pick flowers for her, or go to church on the days he doesn't necessarily want to. For the MG fans who didn't get to buy the 'We Were Soldiers' soundtrack, you'll be pleased to know that "Didn't I," one of my favorites, is included on this album. Also included is the funny "Merry Christmas From The Family."
As for the rest of the album, it is packed with hits spanning anywhere from 1999's "Hillbilly Shoes" to 2005's "Something To Be Proud Of." There's "Hillbilly Shoes," the fiery "Lonely And Gone" and "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm" from 'Tattoos & Scars," then "She Couldn't Change Me," from 'Carrying On.' From 'My Town,' there are three songs: "My Town," "Speed," and "Hell Yeah." 'You Do Your Thing' also contributes three songs: "If You Ever Stop Loving," "Gone," and "Something To Be Proud Of."
