Guide Review - Ray Scott - My Kind of Music
Ray Scott, in my humble opinion, has more talent in his little finger than a good share of the artists you hear on the airwaves today. He has an incredible baritone voice and the songs he chose for this album are real country, not some popped up music they call country. They are stories about real people, not fluffy cookie cutter stuff. He uses real country instruments like the fiddle and the steel guitar, and he takes his music back to the traditional sound. The first single release, "My Kind of Music" is a popular song on CMT and GAC country videos. Along with being filled with a heavy dose of steel guitar, it has great lyrics. It is all about finding a girl and you know she's wrong when the first thing she does is change your country station in the truck. The night only gets worse from there for this country guy. "Plowboy" reminds people that you can be successful in the business world and not lose your solid country roots. "Rats Don't Race" is a fun song. "Bear With Me Lord" is a beautiful ballad. And the 14th track isn't listed, but it is a verbal track of thanks from Ray. There just aren't any bad songs on this CD. I can't find one negative thing to say about it, it is just a solid country album and a great debut album. It will be a hard act for him to follow, and I expect to see Ray Scott around for a long, long time.
