Guide Review - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Acoustic
What's left to be said about the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band that hasn't already been said? When they're on, there are few who can top them, and when they recorded "Acoustic" in 1994, they were most definitely ON.Featuring only the foursome of Jeff Hanna (guitars/vocals), Jimmy Ibbotson (guitars/mandolin/vocals), Jimmie Fadden (harmonica/vocals), and Bob Carpenter (accordian/vocals), "Acoustic" embraces the old while showing off their continued evolution of sound, the sharp and crisp vocalizations highlighted by only a few unplugged instruments, showing off how pure music can really be.
It's a very simple album, and doesn't need a lot of words to describe it. Just listen. Get the sound. Enjoy it. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has always excelled in making music that's as basic as roots music can get. This disc proves to be no exception. It's a great re-issue.
