Guide Review - Phil Vassar - Greatest Hits Volume 1
What I really like about this album is that it isn't just a collection of songs Phil has released - it's an album with versions of hits written & made famous by other artists. Hearing a songwriter sing their own songs makes listening even more enjoyable. In case you didn't know or realize, Phil Vassar was one of the co-writers of Jo Dee Messina's "Bye Bye" & the lone writer of "I'm Alright." Only being familiar with Jo Dee's versions, it's great hearing a male singing the song. On Tim McGraw-performed "My Next Thirty Years," Phil adds a little more substance to the lyrics. Phil Vassar sounds like he is actually on a car radio in the beginning of "Little Red Rodeo," most notably performed by Collin Raye. It's the kind of song you'll find yourself singing along to. Phil also sings his version of Tim McGraw's "For A Little While."
Along with the songwriter's version of famous hits, he also includes his own: "In A Real Love," "Carlene," "American Child," "Just Another Day In Paradise," "Six-Pack Summer," "That's When I Love You," & "I'll Take That As A Yes (The Hot Tub Song)." "Twenty One" is an autobiographical look into Phil's life when he was younger. "I couldn't get gone fast enough," he sings. "The Woman In My Life" pays tribute to the women in Phil's life & his wife is the co-writer. "The Last Day Of My Life" is the first single from the album. It's about a man who realizes that life is too short & he wants to enjoy it with his wife.
