Guide Review - Hank Williams, Jr - That's How They Do It In Dixie: Essential Collection
Hank Williams Jr. has been a mainstay in country music for a couple of decades now. His musical talents are phenomenal and his penchant for having a good time is well known as well. This CD has 10 tracks of old favorites and 2 brand new songs. One of these songs is a musical collaboration with Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and Van Zant, and it lives up to each and every one of those names. "That's How They Do It In Dixie" is a rousing song about life in the south and you either like it or you are free to move on. I do believe it has become a favorite song of mine. The other new song, "Stirrin' It Up," is also on the wild side, but that is nothing new for Hank Jr. He pokes a little fun at some of the issues that get people all riled up and says he is taking life a little mellower these days and not jumping into things like he used to.There are some old favorites as well. Well, more than some. All 10 of the remaining tracks were songs I could sing along to and I thought they were great choices for the album. I can't pick one 'essential' song because to me they all are synonymous with the name Hank Jr. "All My Rowdy Friends," "Family Tradition," "A Country Boy Can Survive" and "Born to Boogie" are a few of the songs you will hear. And of course they include the duet with Hank Sr., "There's A Tear in My Beer."
This is a terrific road trip CD and a great party CD. Anyone who loves good country music will not be disappointed with this album.
