Guide Review - The Waybacks - From The Pasture To The Future
So, who are The Waybacks? They are, Stevie Coyle (rhythm and fingerstyle guitar and vocals), James Nash (lead guitar, mandolin and vocals), Joe Kyle Jr. (double-bass and vocals), Chuck Hamilton (drums and percussion) and Warren Hood (fiddle and vocals). Their repertoire is a powerful mix of pop/rock, country, bluegrass and folk all rolled into one. Their musical style is as diverse as the ages of the members of this group which range from the early 20's to the early 50's.Trying to put a label on their music style is all but impossible because it's so diverse. But, it is consistently good! Sometimes they are punchy rock, then they could be playing a fiddle-influenced waltz. But then they could be playing some Celtic-tinged folk. But then again, they might be playing a jazz style rumba. Sound confusing? Maybe a little, but when you put it all together, The Waybacks are an entertaining, lively group to listen to.
One thing I found very interesting as well as enjoyable about their CD is how every other track was an instrumental. The odd numbered tracks all had vocals while the even numbered tracks were instrumentals. It really made for an interesting mix of music. There is a hint of bluegrass throughout the CD, but it's not over powering. You can't help but tap your toes to the rhythm of the songs on this disc. The Waybacks 4th CD 'From The Pasture To The Future' is a little rock 'n roll, bluegrass, country and folk. But from start to finish, it's lively and enjoyable.
