On the Charts - Billboards Country Singles and Albums

For week of May 28, 2005

Top 10 Country Singles
Keith Urban takes a hop, skip and a jump from No. 3 to take over the No. 1 spot this week with "Making Memories of Us." Gretchen Wilson, who I predicted to move up this week, remains at No. 2 with "Homewrecker." I expect Keith to hold onto the No. 1 spot for a second week. Gretchen's song has lost a lot of spins, so I don't see it going any higher. At No. 3 is the former No. 1, Jo Dee Messina's "My Give a Damn's Busted." Joe Nichols remains at No. 4 with "What's a Guy Gotta Do," while Dierks Bentley's "Lotta Leavin' Left to Do" moves up two spots to claim No. 5. Trace Adkins' "Songs About Me" sticks at No. 6, and Rascal Flatts move up four to No. 7 with "Fast Cars and Freedom." Craig Morgan's "That's What I Love About Sunday" remains at No. 8. George Strait moves up three with "You'll Be There," and Andy Griggs "If Heaven" drops five to No. 10 this week.

Moving Up at the Speed of Light
In its second week on the charts, Toby Keith's "As Good As I Once Was" is this week's top gainer, moving up 13 spots from No. 37 to No. 24. If you haven't seen the video for this song, you gotta catch it. It's really funny. It reminds me somewhat of "I Love This Bar." Kenny Chesney's marriage status hasn't had any negative affect on his music as his song "Keg in the Closet" moves up a healthy nine spots from No. 27 to No. 19 this week. Tied for third, moving up six spots, are Darryl Worley's "If Something Should Happen" (21 - 16), and Montgomery Gentry's "Something To Be Proud Of" (56 - 51).

The Latest Tunes To Hit The Air Waves
Faith Hill hits the charts with her first single in nearly 2 years, "Mississippi Girl," and it debuts at No. 27 this week. Her album, Fireflies will come out later this year. Other music debuting this week comes from Tim McGraw; "Do You Want Fries With That," debuting at No. 59, and Blaine Larsen's "The Best Man" charting at NO. 60.

Top 10 Country Album Charts
We have a new No. 1, as Dierks Bentley lays claim on the top with Modern Day Drifter, selling 74,917 copies of his sophomore disc. Van Zant also debut this week with Get Right With The Man, debuting at No. 2, selling 41,029 copies. At No. 3 is Rascal Flatts' Feels Like Today, dropping one from last week. Keith Urban's Be Here also drops one to No. 4. Jo Dee Messina's Delicious Surprise drops from No. 1 last week to No. 5 this week. Larry The Cable Guy drops two spots to No. 6, with The Right to Bare Arms. At No. 7, dropping one, is Sugarland's Twice the Speed of Life. Gretchen Wilson's Here For The Party drops three to No. 8. Kenny Chesney holds both the 9 and 10 spots with When The Sun Goes Down and Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair.

New Album Releases
Other than Dierks Bentley and Van Zant, Robert Earl Keen releases What I REally Mean, which debuts at No. 21. Debuting at No. 70 is Patsy Cline's Gold.

NOTE: All chart rankings are based on the song or album's position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart or Billboard Country Albums Chart for May 28, 2005.
