Top 10 Country Singles
For the fifth week, Toby Keith's "As Good As I Once Was" single is No. 1 on the charts, making me wonder if Sugarland's No. 2 song, "Something More," and Faith Hill's No. 3 song, "Mississippi Girl," will ever have their own turn at the top spot. At least Brooks & Dunn's song, "Play Something Country," moved up one to No. 4 this week, but that movement meant Brad Paisley's "Alcohol" had to land on No. 5. Both Tim McGraw and Sara Evans moved up two spots this week - Tim with No. 6's "Do You Want Fries With That," and Sara with No. 7's "A Real Fine Place To Start." Rascal Flatts dropped four spots to No. 8 with "Fast Cars And Freedom" and Shedaisy dropped two, landing on No. 9 with "Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing." Van Zant enters the Top 10 for the first time with their song, "Help Somebody." With the top three songs on the charts losing spins, it might just be Toby for a sixth week at the No. 1 spot.
Moving Up at the Speed of Light
Keith Urban's song, "Better Life," moved six spots from No. 40 to No. 34, while Gretchen Wilson also moved up six places landing on No. 15 with "All Jacked Up." This week's big jump is No. 52 song, "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," which moved up seven spots from last week's chart position.
The Latest Tunes To Hit The Air Waves
Two already-famous names and a newcomer grace the air waves this week with new music. Sawyer Brown hits the charts with No. 59's "They Don't Understand," while newcomer Luke Stricklin debuts at No. 58 with his song, "American By God's Amazing Grace." The second superstar making a debut is Martina McBride with her version of "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden," which landed at No. 53.
Top 10 Country Album Charts
Since Faith Hill was releasing her first studio album in three years, I fully expected her to debut at No. 1 with Fireflies, and she did just that. Rascal Flatts dropped a spot to No. 2 with Feels Like Today, while Toby Keith's Honkytonk University also dropped a spot to land at No. 3. Proving that not every artist would drop a spot or two on the charts, Sugarland's Twice the Speed of Life moved up from No. 5 to No. 4. Keith Urban found his way to the No. 5 spot with Be Here, landing right next to George Strait's No. 6 album, Somewhere Down In Texas. Gretchen Wilson moved to No. 7 with Here For The Party and Jason Aldean's self-titled album hit No. 8. Toby Keith's Greatest Hits 2 (No. 9) and Big & Rich's Horse Of A Different Color (No. 10) round out this week's Top 10 country albums.
New Album Releases
Johnny Cash's The Legend debuts at No. 44 this week, while The Warren Brothers' album, Barely Famous Hits, made it all the way to No. 35. Superstar Faith Hill's album, Fireflies, debuted at the No. 1 spot.
NOTE: All chart rankings are based on the song or album's position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart or Billboard Country Albums Chart for August 20, 2005.
