Sara Evans with brother Matt - Colusa Casino - September 3, 2005

I didn't write down exactly when Sara introduced her band, but I think it might have been here. She mentioned how the guys were "sexy," and even the girl fiddle player was "sexy," but when she got to Matt (her brother) she had the fiddle player say "he's sexy," saying she just can't say that about him, with him being her brother, and all.

What's really funny is that I had mentioned to my friend Dianne about how I always thought Matt seemed very serious and didn't joke around a lot. Maybe he heard me and wanted to prove me wrong, or maybe I just haven't been at the shows where he was joking and funny, but at this show he was.

As Sara introduced each band member, they each got applause as they waved hi to the audience. When it was Matt's turn, as Sara was looking at the audience, Matt made a sign like "more applause" when she wasn't looking at him and everyone cheered loudly for him. And when she looked back at him, he looked like, gee, I don't know why they love me so much. Then, she'd look at the audience, and Matt would make his "more applause" sign again, and the audience went wild. And then Sara said "Ok, enough about Matt." And Matt had to say "Ok, quiet!" It was hilarious. Some guy even said "I love you, Matt," and Sara said, "Oh, it's that kind of place, is it?" All night, the guys were saying "I love you Sara! You're hot, Sara!" So, this was so funny.

Next, Sara sang her huge hit "Born to Fly," then slowed it down with another story. She talked of when she grew up, she loved Reba and Loretta, and they were her idols. She said the next song reminded me of a song they might sing. That song was "Cheatin'," which is another song off the new album. This song is hot!! Definite single. I know I'm saying that a lot, but from what I heard, this album is going to be even better than her previous albums, and that's really saying something.

We got to hear one more new cut, "Coalmine," which totally has that Kentucky feel to it. Very bluegrassy, but still country too. I loved this one too.

Sara was really talkative that night, and said the next song she usually talks about her husband and family, but she's sick of them. Everyone laughed at that. She said she'd like to dedicate it instead to all the fans, because of her fans, she could not ask for more. And of course, "I Could Not Ask For More" was the song.

Her final song of the regular set was her current single, "Real Fine Place To Start," after which Sara and the band left the stage.

After a standing ovation, and much love coming from the audience, Sara and the band returned to the stage

For her encore, Sara started out with the REO Speedwagon tune, "Take It On The Run," then sauntered into the Otis Redding "Dock of the Bay." I was hoping she might sing "Otis Redding" next, but she instead she sang the Belinda Carlisle song, "Heaven is a Place on Earth."

What a great show this was. I love when an artist talks to the audience, and Sara certainly did that during this show. Sara's on tour with Brad Paisley and Sugarland now. If she's coming your way, be sure to get tickets. She puts on a great show.
