MCA Recording artist Jedd Hughes used to be Patty's former guitar player, and when he went solo, that left her to find a replacement for her band. She said she found her new guitar player at Roberts, which is a popular club in Nashville. She told him, "You're so fine, and I really would like it if you would play in my band." She said he looked like he was about to say no, and she said "Patty Loveless," and then commented that he believed her and so here he is. ;) She then mentioned that Jedd Hughes has a new album out, and it's great. And then told us, "I told him I would plug it, so there you go."
Patty introduced the rest of her band, then sang a few songs from her most recent album, On Your Way Home. The songs were "Draggin' My Heart Around," "Nothin' Like The Lonely," and "Grandpa That I Know." She told a story about "Grandpa," saying that it was her husband Emory Gordy's grandfather they wrote about. She said if you have the album, and look inside, you'll see an old man and his mule. That was Emory's grandfather.
My favorite part of the show had to be when she had her band members harmonize with her on songs like "Daniel Prayed," "Pretty Little Miss," and "The Boys are Back in Town." That was awesome. They sound so great together!
She sang one song for an encore. She called it her "tractor song." It's proper name is "On Down the Line."
I'm so glad I finally got to see Patty live. I hope she comes back again. I wish it would have been closer to Christmas, as maybe we would have been treated to some of the excellent Christmas songs she recorded on Bluegrass & White Snow.
