After a brief intermission to change the set the energetic duo Sugarland took the stage. Jennifer Nettles was full of spunk, smiling and dancing all night long. Kristian Bush was just as energetic moving all over the stage, dancing and playing with his band members.
They opened the set with a brief lead-in of American Girl which cut to "Something More." Jennifer's unmistakable twang rang true and clear as she belted out tune after tune. Each song was introduced briefly and the song title was given with Jennifer doing the majority of the talking.
They promoted their new album Enjoy the Ride which arrives in stores in November 7th by singing a few songs from the new CD, including a wonderful up-tempo tune called "Settling" "Ain't settlin for anything less than everything," Jennifer sang, convincing us all she was speaking the truth. Jack Ingram joined the duo on stage when they sang another new song from the upcoming album called "County Line."
Jennifer showed off her softer side when she toned it down for the ballad "(Just might make me) Believe" but cranked it back up for the wild and crazy "Down in Mississippi" which appeared to be a crowd favourite. They closed the set with the much anticipated smash hit "Baby Girl."
Jennifer and Kristian put on a fantastic set, full of energy, with their obvious flirtation a central part of the show. Anyone who didn't know that both Jennifer and Kristian are married to other people might assume the two are a couple themselves judging by their playful interaction. At one point Kristian crouched behind Jennifer and reached an arm around her leg to strum on his guitar while she kept right on singing into the mic, never missing a beat.
My only complaint with the performance was that the set list was rather end loaded, with all their big hits coming at the end and the new and unreleased music monopolizing the first half of the show. I could see some individuals around me losing interest as they sat through several songs they didn't know. Other than that, Sugarland was terrific. With their positive spirit and fun-loving attitude it is easy to see how this duo has gained such popularity in their short time in the spot light.
