I loved Tim & Faith's tour last year, so when I heard they were going to be touring together again, and coming to Sacramento, I snagged tickets through the Fan Club pre-sale. We got lower level, row G, which is about even with the stage, and a perfect place to sit. As our own Bobbi Smith mentioned in her review of the show in Toronto, Canada, earlier this year, front row seats aren't what they're cracked up to be. You can see much better from the lower level seats. What was even better, was that we also ended up with aisle seats, which I love having, so I don't have to crawl over anyone, if I need to use the restroom, or visit the snack bar.
I had no idea who was going to be the opening act. I was disappointed that it wouldn't be Lance Miller, as I really wanted to see him perform. We didn't get there in time to see him at the InfoGig stages outdoors, unfortunately. To my delight, the opening act was Halfway to Hazard, which consists of Chad Warrix and David Tolliver. The duo is releasing their album next week, and you can read Scott's review of their self-titled debut album. It was co-produced by Tim McGraw and Byron Gallimore, and having a copy myself, I must say it's excellent. The guys are fantastic live, as well.
Back to the show, Chad and David took their places on the center stage at opposite microphones. One facing one way and one facing the other. There were two mic stands next to each other, so I was hoping they'd also sing side by side, so we could get some pictures of them both facing the same way. They started off their set with my second favorite track on the album, "The Devil and the Cross," followed by "Taking Me On," and then playing their first single, "Daisy." They said that after the next song, they were going to make stars of everyone, as they were taping a video of us, so they needed us to scream real loud or Tim would get mad. Then, quipped, and you know how Faith is when she gets mad. Then, they complained, "How come nobody wants to grab us?"
Sure enough, after "I'm Tired," they had cameras on the audience, which was all screaming and clapping up a storm. That was fun. They ended their set with the uptempo "Countrified." (Not to be confused with the Emerson Drive song of the same name.)
These two guys sure do know how to warm up a crowd. They played for about 25 minutes. I'm looking forward to seeing them again sometime.
