After a brief intermission where the stagehands came out to move things around and set up the equipment for Josh Turner's set, he was introduced by the two local DJs. Again, couldn't make out what they were saying very well.
Josh came out, and started on our side of the stage, with "Firecracker." I was happy to see he was wearing a light colored shirt and jeans, rather than dark colors. (Makes it easier to photograph people wearing lighter colored clothes.)
The sound was still off, but because we knew Josh's music so well, we didn't notice it quite so bad. "One Woman Man" was next, followed by the title track to his latest album, "Everything is Fine."
Josh said that he got to sing with someone on his new album, and everyone cheered when he said it was Trisha Yearwood. He joked, "She's ok." This lead to that song, "Another Try."
The chugging of a train filled the air, and everyone knew it was time for "Long Black Train." This is a huge audience favorite, and the audience sings along with Josh. He also plays out that last deep note, and lately, he lets the audience actually sing the last "train."
My favorite moment had to be when he sang the beautiful song he wrote for his wife, Jennifer, who plays keyboards in his band, "Soulmate." He said that this was his first show of 2008.
Josh sang another song that was a collaboration from his previous album, Your Man, called "Me and God." He closed his show with "Would You Go With Me."
Like Sarah Johns, Josh really needs to work on balancing out his performance to the four sides of the stage. Again, he, like Sarah, played more to the other side of the stage. But, seeing it's the first show of the year, I can give them both the benefit of the doubt. I hope that they'll get it down for shows in the future, so that no one feels like they were not played to as much as the other sides.
