Over the years I had always wanted to see Travis in concert, but for one reason or another it just never happened, until now.
Konocti Harbor Resort is situated on beautiful Clear Lake, and has both an indoor showroom, which is where Travis performed, and an outdoor amphitheater.
While most artists that perform here have an opening act, we were treated to a full night of only Travis. And what a night it was.
Travis hit the stage a bit late. It was around 8:40 pm when he strolled in from the left side and was greated by an enthusiastic crowd. He wore a long sleeve black striped shirt with blue jeans and a black hat, and revved up the crowd with "Put Some Drive In Your Country."
Not to say that Travis is all up tempo stuff, he sang an Eagles cover, "Take It Easy," which is the song he sang on the 1993 Eagles Tribute Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles.
This was just the start of what would be an exciting and truly entertaining evening of both hits and covers from Travis. He has enough hits to fill out an hour or two, easily, and he did not disappoint.
One thing you can never say about Travis is that he sings pop country. He's country with a little bit of Southern Rock, but you'd never mistake him for a crossover act. This was something he got across later on in the show as he talked about his upcoming album, My Honkytonk History, which he said is not that "pop crossover BS," and that "from hell or high water, it was going to be released." (Actual release date is scheduled to be August 13th.)
Whether playing with his band, or sitting on a stool with just his acoustic guitar, Travis entertained with his latest single "Girls Gone Wild," to "10 Feet Tall and Bullet Proof," to "Tell Me I Was Dreaming," to the one that started it all, "Country Club," where he had everyone sing along. Even his encore wasn't your typical 2-songs long. No, Travis sang 6 songs for his encore, and his total set lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. Most definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen in any genre.
