Travis told the story about being asked to do a video for the song "Anymore." He was to play a Viet Nam Veteran, even though he'd never been in the service, let alone a war. He was supposed to play this character in a real Veteran's Hospital in Murfreesborough, TN. Travis thought the Vets were going to take a look at him and think "Who does this punk think he is trying to play one of us?" But he was surprised at the reaction from the Vets. They gave him their total support, and helped him as much as they could.
Then, when the video was finished six weeks later, he took it back to that Veteran's Hospital to debut it for those Veterans. He said that he was afraid to watch it himself, so he watched their reactions, and thought to himself these are the guys that define the word "hero." He said they were really taken with the video and it moved him so much that he could move them. Later on, he agreed to serve as spokesman for Disabled American Veterans.
After singing "T-R-O-U-B-L-E," Travis left the stage and the audience started chanting "Travis... Travis... Travis..." Soon, Travis did return for his encore, now sporting a black sleeveless Army shirt. On the back it said in big bold letters "An Army of One."
Travis started his encore with "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde," then did a cover of "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys," complete with his impression of Willie Nelson that had everyone laughing so hard. He held his nose as he impersonated Willie's nasal tone. So funny!
Travis continued paying tribute to Waylon with "I've Always Been Crazy," then said "I miss Johnny Cash," and played "Big River." From there he paid tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd with "They Call Me The Breeze" then he grabbed the mic stand and went back and forth on the stage as he sang his final tune. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of it, but it was a rock tune.
This was definitely a night to remember, and makes easy any decision on whether to see Travis again if he's out this way. Most definitely!
