I couldn't believe my luck when I purchased tickets to see Keith Urban performing near my home town and noticed the opening bands name, Little Big Town. I had just seen their new video and was really looking forward to the time I could see them live. Now I was killing two birds with one stone if you will, and with all that I had been hearing about the band, I was in for a great night of music.
Four members make up Little Big Town. Kimberly Roads, Karen Fairchild, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet who are joined on stage by three other band mates. All four took at least one turn on lead vocals and with talent like that, it didn't surprise me at all that their harmonies blended together so perfectly.
Their show began with a song off their current CD The Road To Here called "Good As Gone." This song along with the second one, "Bones" were great choices for a beginning, bluegrassy thumpers if you will. Both really got the attention of the audience even if they hadn't heard the songs before.
Slowing the melody down only a notch or so with "A Little More You," and then really slowing it down with an incredible ballad called "Stay." Performed with a lone guitar and all four voices, this song is gonna be a big hit. The crowd was pretty subdued and I wondered if like me, they were just really listening close to how incredible the harmonies were. I looked around the arena and even though people weren't up on their feet, every eye for as far as I could see was glued to the stage. The cheers that were heard after the song finished was all I needed to confirm my suspicions. This crowd loved Little Big Town. It was never more apparent than when the last song "Boondocks" began. Everyone jumped to their feet as this song began. I was bummed that it was the last song. Their set was short but sweet and I can't wait to see them again. My only hope is that next time its for a whole lot longer.
