Country Music Single Releases - What to listen for on Country Radio

Week of July 3, 2006

From Matt Bjorke, for About.com

Danielle Peck - "God Bless America"
While not an actual single, it's a wonderful version of this short poem and is done a cappella and shows off Danielle's fine voice. Perfect for 4th of July.

Rushlow Harris - "That's So You" Tim Rushlow has been the lead vocalist for two bands and a solo artist. All with major labels. Now with his fourth 'shot,' he's back again with his cousin Donnie Harris. Donnie was a member of Tim's solo band and their last band on Lyric Street Rushlow. This duo is good "That's So You" is a catchy song that hopefully will be a hit for them.

George Strait - "Give It Away"
George Strait has one of the most unique singles of his career. This reminds me of a Waylon Jennings meets Robert Earl Keen. In other words: exactly the kind of song that this legend has sung lately. This one's a Top 10 and most likely a No. 1.

Chris Young - "Drinking Me Lonely"
This song awed me when I saw Chris sing it on Nashville Star, and the fact that his debut single is this song is a smart, wise choice by RCA. It's a 'rethink' by them after originally choosing to go with a different single. There's echos of Keith Whitley in his voice and his falsetto ending is just killer. This one's gonna be a big hit. It's country and contemporary and just... um well, great!

Dierks Bentley - "Every Mile A Memory"
The debut single from Dierks' third album, this one is absolutely perfect for his lifestyle and it's got a southern-rock melody in the background while never sacrificing the country. Dierks does the Opry proud. This one's destined to be another #1 for Dierks.

Randy Rogers Band - Kiss Me In The Dark"
This is the debut single from the Randy Rogers Band's Mercury Nashville release which is due out on September 8th. The band is from Texas, and has a big following with their three independent releases. This song has a great mid-tempo country rock feel, and Randy has a great voice with a touch of grit to it, so it's not too smooth. I think this should do well on country radio.
