Country Music Single Releases - What to listen for on Country Radio

Week of August 21, 2006

From Matt Bjorke, for About.com

Sara Evans - "You'll Always Be My Baby"
Probably the last single from Sara's Real Fine Place album, this one should find Sara back in the Top 10 at radio. It's a solid song from one of country's best singers.

Trent Willmon - "So Am I"
This is a great up tempo track from Trent that should find him a home in the Top 20. Hopefully it'll go further than that. To top it all off, it's not the only hit from his sophomore CD A Little More Livin'

Lee Ann Womack - "Finding My Way Back Home"
It looks as if Lee Ann's last record was a one-shot trial. My guess is that, despite the Gold success of the album, the lack of a hit single has Lee Ann back in the territory of I Hope You Dance era stuff. That being said, this is a fun little up tempo song. Something she didn't have much of on There's More Where That Came From. It should be at least a Top 20 hit for Lee Ann.

Keith Urban - "Once In A Lifetime"
Keith Urban is a superstar and despite the obvious electronically created backing beats, This one's destined to be a huge hit. It starts out like a ballad and ends up being up tempo. The lyrics sound like they were written for KU's newlywed status with wife Nicole Kidman. There's no doubt about this one, it's a No. 1 hit.

Tracy Lawrence - "Find Out Who Your Friends Are"
Much like Toby Keith, Tracy Lawrence has had trouble getting labels to let him sing his own stuff. So, instead of finding a new label after his Mercury label deal ended, Tracy created Rocky Comfort Records. This is his first release from the label and it sounds like a hit to me. It's classic Tracy Lawrence. Hopefully it'll be a Top 20 hit for him.

Rebecca Frederick - "Lovin' In The Mud"
This is a new entry from a new artist and label. The music is pretty good and the vocal is ok but I don't think this will be a radio hit. Still, There's a great chance you'll hear this at country line dancing places.

T. Graham Brown - "The Present"
T. Graham is an engaging vocalist with a unique blues/rock/country hybrid. The song is as rock solid as anything T. Graham's ever recorded before. Hopefully he gets a chance to have another hit with it. It's released by his new label Joy Records.

Annie Sims - "Eighty Acres of Stars"
Written by two good songwriters, this track features a great 80's country style vocal from Annie. Will it be a hit? No, but she's got talent.
