Country Music Single Releases - Week of May 5, 2008

What's new on country radio?

From Jennifer Webb, for About.com

Read Jenn's thoughts on the new singles that are released for the week of May 5, 2008.

Brooks & Dunn - "Put A Girl In It"

Brooks & Dunn - Cowboy TownSony BMG
This is a fun song from Brooks & Dunn and a guaranteed winner for "sing along" status. If you believe the words in this single, then you'll know that life for a man isn't fully complete unless he can share it with a woman. They make things so much sweeter.

Chris Cagle - "No Love Songs"

Chris Cagle - My Life's Been a Country SongCapitol Nashville
Life isn't always about sunshine and roses, so it's only natural to be in the mood for some cheatin' and done-me-wrong type songs when that's how you're feeling. It's something just about anyone can relate to and I think it should do well on the radio. Listen

Randy Travis - "Faith In You"

Randy Travis - Around the BendWarner Nashville
From the short clip I've heard, Randy Travis does a spectacular job on this song. His deep voice is flawless and every note inspirational. When you listen to him sing, you can't help but take notice and you know you're in for some quality music. Listen

John Michael Montgomery - "Mad Cowboy Disease"

"Mad Cowboy Disease" lives up to its funny title in the lyrics, but what I most like about the song is the honky-tonkin' feel to it. To hear this played in a bar would be the ideal setting and radio would be second best. When I first listened to the song I almost didn't recognize John's voice because it sounded like his brother Eddie's (from Montgomery Gentry). As it progressed though I could make out the difference. Rissi Palmer - "No Air"

Rissi is one of those artists whose talent is undeniable. A song like this only proves how unique her voice is and how she could easily stand out in the country music crowd. Rissi makes things sound so effortless and, in turn, listeners should find her music easy to enjoy. Listen

Carters Chord - "Different Breed"

What a cool song from Carters Chord, who are on Toby Keith's Show Dog Nashville label. Tight harmonies are found in the vocals and the bluesy, gritty sound goes right along with how the woman says she's different from all the "perfect" girls. She isn't apologizing for being different and you shouldn't either. Give the song aspin and add a little something different to your playlists. Listen

Joshua Stevens - "Rock 'n Roll And Pensacola"

Joshua was on Nashville Star's fifth season and, now signed to Robbins Nashville, is releasing "Rock n' Roll And Pensacola" as his first single. It sounds very radio-friendly and if an established artist released it, radio would probably be all over it. Because it is somewhat difficult for newcomers to break in on the charts, we'll have to wait and see what happens with this one. Listen

Beau Davidson - "More Than I Can Give"

Being a fan of genres other than country music, I really like Beau's soulful blend in "More Than I Can Give." Being able to use different influences keeps things interesting and mixes things up a little bit. Instead of sounding like every other artist out there, people can listen to this song and know it's Beau singing. I'll be interested in what the full album will sound like. Listen
