Country Music Single Releases - Week of May 19, 2008

What's new on country radio?

From Jennifer Webb, for About.com

Read Jenn's thoughts on the new singles that are released for the week of May 19, 2008.

Taylor Swift - "Should've Said No"

Taylor Swift - Taylor SwiftBig Machine Records
This is my favorite Taylor Swift single to date, maybe because it sounds more grown up than some of her other material. Shipping this to radio after last single "Picture To Burn" is a smart idea. Another plus about the song is the banjo in the background music.

Ashton Shepherd - "Sounds So Good"

Ashton Shepherd - Sounds So GoodMercury Nashville
I really have become a fan of Ashton Shepherd since reviewing her debut album and, dare I say, I think she's the best female country musician to come along for quite some time. Her voice exudes the definition of "country" and when she sings the line: "Ain't nothing like the sound of real country music. C'mon turn it up" it makes me want to turn up HER songs. Put this on your playlist or in your CD players and enjoy! Listen

Shawna Russell - "Goddess"

Shawna Russell - GoddessWay Out West Records / Nine North
This is a nice song and I like how the lyrics were written. There are always songs about men being there for women and now Shawna has a song about a woman who can be a man's guiding light to help him through the darkness. All with an upbeat tempo. Very nice change of pace to the "norm." Listen

Sherry Lynn - "Love Or Something Like It"

Another traditional sounding country song is in the mix this week. I would love to be able to hear a longer clip, but from what I listened to it sounds like a good single from Sherry Lynn. Listen
