903 Music Label showed everyone what amazing talent is on their roster Wednesday night after the Music City Jam. The gentleman that started the label, Neal McCoy himself, was first up onstage and he had the audience laughing and cheering as he got everyone on their feet and gathered around the stage. Neal has a charisma that just draws people in and keeps them there. He sang "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On" and if you think you can just be quiet and sedate during a Neal McCoy show, you are thinking wrong. By the end of the song he had just about everyone singing along to the chorus. He also sang a brand new song called "Rednecktified." It was a great song, very uptempo, and definitely an audience gone wild type song. I hope to hear lots more of it!
Even though the audience was begging for more Neal McCoy music, he gracefully bowed out and introduced The Drew Davis Band. They were one of the first artists he signed to his label, and he said that when he heard them opening at one of his shows he had his manager track down who they were because they were the 'best live band I've heard in a long time!' He tracked them down and the rest is history. They hit the stage and started off with "Dirty Blonde Bomshel" Then they went on to "How Do I" and finished off with their new single, called "Back There All The Time." In any case, they were excellent and it was easy to see why McCoy signed them to the 903 label.
After they left the stage, McCoy came back up and said he was going to play a little game called Deal or No Deal. And sure enough, a few young ladies in short black dresses carrying numbered briefcases made their way to the stage. On our way in, we'd all been handed a ticket and now was the time for numbers to be called. One lucky lady had the winning number and headed for the stage. Up for grabs was $1 and two larger prizes, one of which was a $250 Gift Certificate for Wrangler. I really don't watch the show, so I wasn't sure exactly what was happening, but through a series of choices she ended up with the suitcase that had the low prize. But all had a happy ending because McCoy gave her the Gift Certificate as well as a $250 check. And a hug. I think that was what made her the happiest.
After all the excitement was done from the little game, it was time to introduce the final act of the night for the label. Darryl Worley took the stage, and he has an amazing voice. I wasn't familiar with the songs he started off with, and it was so late by then that I ended up leaving before he was finished. It was a great evening with wonderful music. Any of the three artists who took the stage would be well worth time spent to go see their shows. Great audience connection and great music all the way around.
