Darius Rucker Biography:
Darius Rucker was born on May 13, 1966, in Charleston, SC.In 1989, Darius joined Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld, and Dean Felber to create the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. The band released their first album, the enormously popular Cracked Rear View, in 1994, which yielded the hits "Hold My Hand," "Let Her Cry" and "Only Wanna Be With You." Within a year of its release, the album had gone multi-platinum. By the time the group released their second album, Fairweather Johnson, their debut had sold 13 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Although Fairweather Johnson sold over 2 million copies, the singles didn't echo the success of the previous songs. After releasing Musical Chairs in 1998, the band took a break, and Rucker used that time to launch a solo career. He recorded his solo career on Atlantic Records with The Return of Mongo Slade, which was scheduled to be released in the summer of 2001, but contractual changes prevented this.
Darius left Atlantic for Hidden Beach Recordings, where he acquired the masters from his solo album, and it was released with the new title Back to Then in 2002.
In 2008, Rucker was signed to Capitol Nashville, and he went in the studio to record the tracks for his solo country release, Learn To Live. The first single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" instantly struck a chord with country listeners, and by May 3, it sat at the top of the charts, making Darius the first African-American singer to reach that position since Charley Pride did so with "Night Games" in 1983.
In late October, Darius released his second single "It Won't Be Like This For Long." By the following March, that single too made its way up the charts, staying on top for three weeks straight.
In 2009, Darius joined Brad Paisley on Tour.
