Guide Review - Coal Miner's Daughter DVD
The movie starts out with a look at a young Loretta living with her family. As her dad says, she is almost 14 so she is almost a woman. Enter Doolittle Lynn. All of a sudden her dad sees her more of a little girl and less of a woman, but Loretta is in love. By 14 she is married and having babies. Doo likes to hear her sing and encourages it by buying her a guitar and taking her to honky tonks to sing with the house bands. Then he pays to cut a single, takes a publicity shot and they make the tour radio stations across the country which results in "Honky Tonk Girl" hitting the charts at number 14. And the rest is history. The movie touches on Loretta's close friendship with Patsy Cline and her fight with health problems while on the road. It is an excellent movie and well worth adding to a collection. There are some trips down a musical memory lane to be found in the Grand Ole Opry scenes.
