Guide Review - Eric Clapton with guests - Crossroads Guitar Festival
Wow. Do you like the guitar? Like hearing it, watching it, do you worship it? Then this is the
DVD for you. Pop it in and just listen in awe as some of the greatest fingers in all of music lull
you to Nirvana on the waves of melodies. Not enough that THE premiere rock guitar god, Eric
Clapton, is here playing (as well as producing), you'll also hear blues legends Buddy Guy and
B.B. King; Stevie Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughn (himself a pretty respectable picker country
giant Vince Gill (playing with dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas); the always impressive Dan
Tyminski (of Alison Krauss's band, as well as the familiar voice of George Clooney from "O
Brother"); Steve Vai, Joe Walsh, Carlos Santana, and oh so many others.[p]Individual
performances are exceptional, although the overall "live" feeling of the festival is lost as,
judging by the "sun up, sun down" qualities, it's not anywhere approaching chronological order.
They also clip in several superb performances from the smaller stages that apparently ringed the
main festival stage inside the stadium, so you get a good feel for what was going on.[p]Okay,
maybe this disc isn't for everyone. You have to have a true appreciation for all forms of roots
music. If you're not a fan of rock or blues, it might be a disappointment. But for those who love
it all, it's a definite must-have. Seeing these guitarists all together in one place is pretty much a
magical experience. Plus, it benefits a terrific cause. What more could you ask?_z_countrymusic_z_);
