Guide Review - Dolly Parton - Dolly Live and Well DVD
After 10 years off the road, Dolly decided to do a tour promoting her 'Halos & Horns' album. She only performed thirteen sold out shows, and this DVD was filmed during a stop in her hometown of Pigeon Forge, TN. She hit the stage at Celebrity Theater in Dollywood and the chemistry between Dolly and her audience is incredible and a lot of fun to watch and listen to. Dolly is a natural people person. In between her fully packed musical set, she talks to her audience like each and every one of them is an old friend. She jokes about her songs being too old, then pokes fun at a guy walking up the aisle saying, "see, he's leaving already!" Then, as if his face isn't already red, she says, "I know, you're going to pee aren't you?" The audience is roaring by this time, and she mumble something about hoping he isn't too embarrassed to come back. The material she chose to perform was done with backup from her hand picked band, The Blueniques, and covered her career from the very early up through several selections from 'Halos & Horns.' This made some of 80's hits like "9 to 5" decidedly more on the bluegrass side but still great. She sang original hits like "Coat of Many Colors," "Applejack" and "Jolene." There were a few covers like "Dagger Through the Heart" and "Stairway to Heaven." Some fun songs like "Rocky Top," "We Irish" and "I'm Gone" had the audience tapping their toes and singing along. She closed with "I Will Always Love You."
