About Elvis Presley

From Shelly Fabian, About.com Guide

To this day Elvis Presley remains the undisputed King of Rock-n-Roll, despite the nearly thirty years since his untimely death at the age of 42. But in 1955, he was just a young man fresh out of his teens who wanted to sing and record, and did so at Sun Studios in Memphis. Along with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins, those years at Sun redefined country music and created rock-and-roll. Elvis was, always, just a country boy who got in over his head, but his talent was undeniable, as was the power it wielded. His astounding early recordings started a phenomenon that has never faded. With literally hundreds of recordings, number 1 hits, thirty-three marginal movies, and a concert career unequaled by anyone (Elvis played two shows a night for seven days a week whenever he played the International/Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas), he managed #1 songs years after his death. The King lives on.
