On Thursday afternoon, June 9, in the parking lot at the LP Field (formerly the Adelphia), the Fifth Annual Andy Griggs Archery Tournament took pace on one of the hottest days of the week. Despite the intense heat, the event was extremely well attended, with all the bleachers filled to capacity and the overflowing to standing room only.

Bombs Away! It's the U.S. Navy Parachute Team

Things got started with the U.S. Navy Parachute Team "Leap Frogs" jumping onto the field from 13,000 feet. This event becomes more popular every year with celebrity participants who are also excellent marksmen, shooting at a variety of targets in hopes to win the coveted title.

Andy Griggs and Blake Shelton had a friendly competition going on between each other and remained neck and neck for a long time. Rhett Akins, who arrived late, due to a prior commitment, was given the opportunity to join in, catch up and compete -- and that he did -- ending in a tie for second place with Andy Griggs, which required a shoot off which resulted in Rhett winning and placing second, with Andy, last year's winner, in third place. The event was won by Rusty Tabor who was very consistent all day and scored an impressive 112 points.
