Scott told the story of how they first heard their single on the radio. He said they were in Oklahoma City on a golf course. And they really tore it up because they can't really play for crap. They knew their single was going to be played around a certain time so they went to Walgreens and bought a portable radio and put it on a string around their necks, cuz on a radio tour, that's all you can afford. That song, of course was "Good Little Girls."
During the song, Aaron jumped off the stage and ran up the tiered steps to the level where I was and stood one person away from me as he sang the song. You can see the picture I snapped of him when he was there. I was totally unprepared as my camera was set for telephoto since they were further away, and now I had to madly refocus and zoom back out so he would be in focus. That was fun.
Tracy came back onstage to tell how she enjoyed doing the Nashville Star shows because they get to discover new talent like the next artist. She said that Miranda Lambert finished third last year behind Buddy Jewell and john Arthur martinez on the show, and was signed to Sony, and would be releasing her album early next year.
Miranda started her set with "Love's Giving You Me." The second song, also from her upcoming album was "What About Georgia." She said her single will be out on September 13th, and the album will be out on February 3rd of next year.
Next was a song called "Love's Looking For You." Then, she sang her first single, called "I Can't Be Bothered." Her last song was the Tanya Tucker cover "Texas (When I Die)."
Tracy came back on stage asking if we heard of the show "Nashville Star," saying Brad Cotter won this years show and had just released his first single on Sony Records.
Brad came out and opened his part of the show with "Get Yourself a Party." It was good to hear him singing things other than I'd heard before, and this was a fun song. Next up was another new one called "Can't Tell Me Nothing." He teased saying this was where they'll insert girls in bikinis in the show.
The stagehands came back out on stage to move up the keyboard so Brad could play his next song, which was his first single, "I Meant To." He then closed with the 38 Special cover, "Hold On Loosely."
I wish he could have sung one more song, but I'm guessing the show was running long and the next act was ready to start, so Brad said he'd be signing up in the Tower Records booth and asked people to stop by and say hi.
The Riverfront Stages are definitely something I plan to do more of next year. You can get a whole lot closer to the artists, and it's just a much more intimate affair. I definitely recommend them.
