Country Music - Road Trip Songs

By Shelly Fabian, About.com

I don't know about you, but each time I get in my car, no matter if I'm just driving a few miles to the local grocery store, or 100 miles to fly off on a vacation, I have to have my country music with me.

I dream of having a convertible, with the top down, and the radio turned up blasting Keith Urban's "Days Go By" and just cruising on down the road. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with a junker of a car. It's not much to look at, but like Aaron Tippin sings, "There Ain't Nothin' Wrong With the Radio." When I'm not playing cassettes of my favorite country music songs, I'm listening to my favorite local country radio stations. There are four that I can get in my area, and if I'm heading out of town to the airport, there is another major country radio station I can tune in as I get closer to my destination. So, I'm never without my favorite music.

I'm sure I must get some stares from people on the highway as they see me singing along to every tune, but I don't care. Music is my lifeblood. Not just any music, but country music. I've enjoyed it since I was a teenager, and except for a brief time when I was into pop music, country has held my heart.

Here are some of my favorite Road Trip Songs, along with links where you can download and purchase most of them.

  • Everywhere - Tim McGraw
This is probably my very favorite Tim McGraw song ever. I love the name dropping of cities. It's just got a really great "outdoor" feeling to it, and it's one I turn up every time I hear it on the radio. Download/Purchase
  • Better Things To Do - Terri Clark
  • Days Go By - Keith Urban This is another one that just makes you wanna get in the car and turn it up, and put your "hand out the window in the wind." Download/Purchase
  • Feels Like Today - Rascal Flatts
Rascal Flatts are known for their wonderful harmonies, and I especially love the chorus of "Feels Like Today." Download/Purchase
  • You're My Better Half - Keith Urban
Nothin' gets my toes a-tappin' easier than putting on any Keith Urban song. I love the story of this song, singing about his girl. Aussome! Download/Purchase
  • Nothin' to Lose - Josh Gracin
I may not be able to sing the words of this song as quickly as Josh does, but it's great fun to try to keep up with him. Download/Purchase
  • Some Beach - Blake Shelton
Blake like Brad Paisley, knows how to sell a funny song. I can't think of this song without remembering the video, and love to sing along. Download/Purchase
  • Anything But Mine - Kenny Chesney
Does Kenny Chesney know how to put out a bad song? Nope, not in my opinion. Most of these songs are up-tempo, but this one is a little slower, and very pretty. Download/Purchase
  • What's a Guy Gotta Do Joe Nichols
Joe Nichols shows that not only Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton can give us a humorous song, but he can as well. I just love the cajun feel to it. Download/Purchase
  • I May Hate Myself in the Morning - Lee Ann Womack
I miss hearing Lee Ann Womack on the radio these days. I wish she'd get a new single out there. This is one of her very best. Another slower song, but still a great song to listen to while driving. Download/Purchase
  • Good Little Girls - Blue County
I have good memories of my first CMA Fest, when I saw Blue County perform this song at the Riverfront stages, and Aaron came out into the audience, right up within 6 feet of where I was standing. Download/Purchase
  • Nothin' On But the Radio - Gary Allan
Gary Allan can do happy and sad, but he excels at sexy, which is definitely what this song is. Hot! Hot! Hot! Love it! Download/Purchase
  • Neon Moon - Brooks & Dunn This is another song that is rooted in a concert experience. I can't hear this song without thinking about Ronnie Dunn's "Neon Moon" glow in the dark guitar. This has to be one of my all-time favorite Brooks & Dunn songs. Download/Purchase
  • Amarillo by Morning - George Strait What would a drive in the car be like without something from the King? This is another one that I just "have" to sing along with. Download/Purchase
  • Suds in the Bucket - Sara Evans
This is such a fun song. I just love the super country sound. Download/Purchase
  • Passenger Seat - Shedaisy
What better type of song to listen to while you're driving than one about driving around with the one you love. Download/Purchase
  • Callin' Baton Rouge - Garth Brooks
  • Bye Bye - Jo Dee Messina
Jo Dee has done her share of spunky songs, and this one is one of the best. It's a perfect song for when you're not feeling happy with your significant other, and feel like saying "Bye Bye." Download/Purchase
  • Mr. Mom - Lonestar
  • What a Beautiful Day - Chris Cagle
This is a great upbeat tune. Listening to this song while you drive will make you enjoy your traveling time even more, as you enjoy the day itself. Download/Purchase
  • Ain't Goin' Down 'Til The Sun Comes Up - Garth Brooks

Now, since I'm updating this page, I gotta say that I no longer have a junker car with a cassette player. I now have a PT Cruiser with a CD player, and I often will take CDs along with me, but mostly, I like to listen to the radio as I drive.
