Heidi Newfield Biography:

Heidi Newfield was born on October 4, 1970, in Healdsburg, California, where she lived on a horse farm with her parents and two older sisters. When her parents divorced when she was a child, Heidi turned to singing and later on songwriting. By the age of thirteen, Newfield had decided that she would like to have a career in country music.

Trick Pony

In 1996, she moved to Nashville, where she met Keith Burns and Ira Dean. They formed a group, which became Trick Pony. In 2000, the band was signed with Warner Brothers Records, where they released Trick Pony. The album produced three singles -- "Pour Me," "On a Night Like This" and "Just What I Do."

In 2002, the band released their second album On a Mission. The album was less successful, only producing two singles -- "On a Mission" and "Boy Like You." With the lack of success on the charts, the label released them.

The band found a new home at Curb Records in 2004. This was also the year that Heidi married Bill Johnson. The group released R.I.D.E. in 2005. Three singles were released from R.I.D.E. -- "The Bride" (No. 27), "It's a Heartache" (No. 22) and "Ain't Wasting Good Whiskey on You" (No. 42).

Going Solo

In 2006, Newfield announced her departure from the band to become a solo artist. She was signed by Curb Records, and in 2007, proceeded to gather songs for her debut album. The album, What Am I Waiting For, was released in 2008, and the lead single, "Johnny & June" topped the charts that same year, and went on to earn her five ACM Award nominations in 2009.
