Equity Records

We got to talk to Little Big Town about a variety of things prior to the CMA Awards in November 2006. Read on to find out what they had to say.

AboutCountry: Karen and Kimberly: You always have the most beautiful clothing. Do you pick your own, and if so where are your most favorite places to shop?

Karen Fairchild: Well, we do love clothing and we do love to shop. We pick out a lot of it ourselves and often check out boutiques wherever we might be at the time. We have favorites all over the country. Luckily, our stylist, Kim Perrett, gets us ready for all the big events. When we are home we often stop by "Abbie and Jessie's" in Franklin, as well as "Flavour" in downtown Nashville.

AboutCountry: Aside from your family and friends, what part of a "normal life" do you miss the most now that you're on the road all the time?

Kimberly Roads: I really miss my critters. I have a precious black lab named Buck and three cats. I miss playing fetch with my dog and just hanging out with my cats. I also miss my kitchen because I love to cook! Oddly enough, I love cleaning my house, that's another thing I miss when I'm traveling. Everyone on the bus indulges me when I get out the bottle of 409 cleaner and start going to town on the bathroom and kitchen counters on the bus.

AboutCountry: With each of you having more than enough of what it takes to sing lead, how do you choose who does?

Phillip Sweet: We like to let the song and the music speak and use our voices as instruments. Typically, one of us may be more drawn to a lyric or melody and we attempt to let the right voice find its home in the song.

AboutCountry: I'm sure each of you has your own influences individuality, but who influences the band as a whole?

Jimi Westbrook: The band mostly has been influenced by a number of harmony groups. Bands such as Alabama, Restless Heart, The Eagles, Crosby Stills and Nash, Fleetwood Mac and The Oak Ridge Boys. We really love a lot of those groups from the 70's.

AboutCountry: With all the great success you have had over the past year, what has surprised you most?

Phillip Sweet: The variety of people and age groups that have been coming to the shows. It's fun to see different generations all together enjoying music.

AboutCountry: I saw the funniest pig calling contest video this year at CRS from your record label. You guys must have had a ton of fun shooting that. Is it available anywhere for your fans to see?

Karen Fairchild: We did have a whole lot of fun shooting that....too much fun as a matter of fact. Jimi really had a vision for the tone of the piece and the kind of odd sense of humor it should have. We brainstormed and worked really hard with director, Kristen Barlowe in order to pull it off in time. Right now it is not available to the fans but you never know, maybe someday.

AboutCountry: What are your interests when you are off the road?

Kimberly Roads: I really enjoy cooking. I learned to cook from my mother, who is a delightful southern woman, and also by experimenting. My late husband was a guinea pig of sorts for me and endured many, many horrible meals when we first got married. He hung in there with me, though, til got it right! I enjoy cooking southern meals and baking. I could spend all day in the kitchen! Also, as I said before, I love playing with my pets. My dog loves to ride in my car, so she goes along with me on my errands when I'm in town. We also take walks together around the lake near my house.
