Miranda Lambert Interview - February 16, 2006

From Sue Bauman, for About.com

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert

Jolene Downs

HostUrbangirl: What comes first to you when your writing, the melody or the lyrics?

Miranda Lambert: A lot of times the melody, I'll start playing you know, the melody on the guitar and then the words will come or sometimes the lyrics comes first though I don't really have a routine thing it's all different.

HostUrbangirl: Whatever happens, happens?

Miranda Lambert: Yeah.

HostUrbangirl: If you could sing a duet with someone?

Miranda Lambert: Merle Haggard (Laughing)

HostUrbangirl: Still? I didn't know if that had changed.

Miranda Lambert: Still Merle Haggard yep, absolutely!

HostUrbangirl: You recently had a chance to play at the legendary Surf Ballroom in Clearlake, the last place Buddy Holly and Richie Valens played and you actually sang "Not Fade Away." What was it like to stand there and sing that?

Miranda Lambert: Well you can, it's kinda weird I mean the vibe in that place. You can actually feel it's still kinda strange you know just because of Buddy playin' there and um, but there's pictures of him everywhere and it's sorta like a museum. It's a bar and a museum at the same time cause they've got pictures of everybody that's played there and the crowd was amazing. It was a really good show for us.

HostUrbangirl: I read that you attended CMA's Fan Fair what we used to call it, but it's the CMA Music Festival now, at age 13.

Miranda Lambert: Yep

HostUrbangirl: And it turned you into an avid autograph collector?

Miranda Lambert: Well I didn't actually collect the autographs 'cause I didn't want to stand in line because then you miss the shows. So I pretty much just watched, that got sent somewhere and it wasn't correct, but I did go to Fan Fair and I did watch.

HostUrbangirl: But your not an autograph collector?

Miranda Lambert: No, I'm not.

HostUrbangirl: Oh my gosh isn't that funny?

Miranda Lambert: It's just everybody asks me about that and I'm not at all. (Laughing)

HostUrbangirl: During my research of you, that's what I pulled up. Are you coming next year to the CMA Music Festival?

Miranda Lambert: Yeah, I'll be playing there. I think on that Saturday night.

HostUrbangirl: On Saturday night? I'll look for ya, that's great! Aside from anything musical, what do you like to do to relax?

Miranda Lambert: Uh, I like to just hang out at my house, watch movies and play with my dog. I have a black lab and I love to play with her and ride four wheelers. Riding four wheelers is something I do for fun.

HostUrbangirl: You have a dog, does she come with you ever?

Miranda Lambert: No, she hasn't cause we're eleven people on a bus and she weighs 65 pounds so we just don't even have the room.

HostUrbangirl: Oh my gosh, they take up so much of your time too, it's incredible.

Miranda Lambert: Yeah they do.

HostUrbangirl: What are you working on now?

Miranda Lambert: Well we're workin on a new album. We're going in March to get that going and you know I'm excited about it. I think that this album is gonna be similiar to the first one. 'Cause we, I didn't change anything I still have the same producers and the same musicians and I'm doing the writing so I think that, I'm excited about it.

HostUrbangirl: When did you say that was coming out?

Miranda Lambert: It'll probably be out this summer.

HostUrbangirl: What would you like to say to any of the fans that are reading this right now?

Miranda Lambert: Just thanks for buying our album, and thanks for you know, being supportive it really helps me go out there on the road when people are standing there tearing at the stage singing along to songs you have written it really makes me feel like you know, it's why, that's why I'm doing this, it's cause the people are standing there that I can see them singing along. So thanks for being fans!
