Van Zant: Thank you!
UrbanGirlHost: Having a part in writing 7 of the 11 songs on your current CD and knowing your guys history, I was wondering if those were all wrote for this CD or
Van Zant: You know, except for the song "Plain Jane" which we wrote years ago, we went back and started looking at our catalog of songs and we were like, WOW, maybe that song will fit on this one. So we took it to Mark Wright, our producer and said what do you think about this. We had a lot of mid tempo songs on this CD you know and we wanted something that actually was a little more up-tempo and really rocked a little bit more so that's the reason why we picked that.
UrbanGirlHost: So you really wrote all of the other ones on this CD?
Van Zant: Oh yes! Most of those songs were written in period of two or three days. What we actually did, this is actually the way we recorded the CD too, obviously Johnnie is real busy with Lynyrd Skynyrd and I'm with 38 Special, and we'd fly in a couple days and write and then go back out and play with our bands and then three or four weeks later fly back in for three or four days and record some and that's how we actually did the whole CD. That's how we'll do the next too cause we had a lot of fun doing it that way. It gave us a way to live with the stuff that we already recorded and we went wow, that's great or ah, that's not it. We take it on the road with us and listen to it live it. Believe me there's been some business guy next to me going, what the hell is that guy playing that song again for?
UrbanGirlHost: Well the song "Help Somebody" is about your grandparents and contains a lot of quotes, which I'm sure was a big part of your childhood hearing those, everybody has those little sayings,
Van Zant: Yeah! It's about God, value and work ethics and you put all that together and you've got the bands own quotes.
UrbanGirlHost: Well the one that struck me the most is the line if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans.
Van Zant: Isn't that cool? It's very true! It's okay to dream and pursue your goals, but God has a plan.
UrbanGirlHost: What quote is your favorite?
Van Zant: Well I can tell ya Johnnie's favorite right now. The line, "Hell Yeah I'm American!" He was ready to record it. But that was one of my favorite lines, what you just said. "If you wanna hear God laugh tell him your plans." I think that's great.
UrbanGirlHost: It is and it's so true.
Van Zant: You know what I think? The state of the world today, I think you need to in still some values in the young kids and for us, heck when our parents said jump we said how high. I tell my kids jump they go where, I'm watching TV. So I start dealing with them , I'll get you this if you do this.
