Keith Urban Biography:
The RanchUrban formed a band, and in 1990 was signed to EMI Australia, where they had four No. 1 songs. By 1992, he was ready to move to Nashville, and he got work in Brooks & Dunn's band. Later he formed a three-piece band called The Ranch. They released a self-titled album in 1997. He later disbanded the band when he decided to pursue a solo career.
Keith was signed by Capitol to a solo deal, where he released his debut album in 2000. The first single, "It's a Love Thing," peaked at No. 18, but the second, "Your Everything," went all the way to No. 4. His third single, "But for the Grace of God," proved that the third time was a charm, and Keith had his first No. 1 song.
In 2002, Keith released Golden Road, which contained his second number one, the lead single, "Somebody Like You," which spent six weeks at the summit, along with "Raining on Sunday," (No. 3) "Who Wouldn't Want To Be Me," and "You'll Think of Me." The latter songs both hit the top of the charts.
Learning the ropesIn 2001 and 2002, Keith toured with superstars Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride & Kenny Chesney, taking notes on how to be a headlining act. By 2004, he was ready to go solo, and CMT stepped up to sponsor his first tour, Keith Urban Be Here '04.
In 2004, Urban released Be Here, which would have six singles chart, including four No. 1 songs, with "Days Go By," "You're My Better Half," "Making Memories of Us," and "Better Life."
2006 would see Keith marry actress Nicole Kidman in Australia in June. That year he also released Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing with the lead single being "Once in a Lifetime." That song set a new record for the highest country single debut in the 62-year history of Billboard, as it debuted at No. 17 on the charts.
Prior to his album release, he held two shows in Atlanta for fan club members only. Two weeks before Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing was due out, he was scheduled to perform in Uncasville, CT. At the last minute, the concert was canceled, and fans that were attending the show heard the news that Keith had checked into rehab. The fans could have just gone home, but they decided to gather together and show support for Keith.
Carrie Underwood joined Keith on the road for the Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride Tour in 2008. In late May, Urban re-recorded "You Look Good in My Shirt," which was originally a track from his Golden Road CD. The song has since become his eighth No. 1 song, and will be part of a new live DVD that is due out in stores in the fall of 2008. It was also added to new pressings of the Greatest Hits CD.
On July 7, 2008, Nicole Kidman gave birth to the couple's first child, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. She weighed 6 lbs 7.5 oz.
Today, Keith continues to tour, and just released his fifth studio album Defying Gravity.
