Kenny Chesney Songwriting:

While Kenny is a songwriter, he doesn't make a point to record albums that are 80% or more his compositions, as say, Toby Keith does. (Not that this is a bad thing.) But, some of the songs he's written have become big hits, like "I Go Back," "You Had Me From Hello," "Beer in Mexico," and "Keg in the Closet."

Kenneth Arnold Chesney was born on March 26,1968 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Kenny graduated from East Tennessee University with a degree in advertising, and a month later, moved to Nashville to persue a career in music in 1991. After playing clubs in Nashville, he was signed to a publishing deal. Chesney was signed to Capricorn Records, where he released his first album, In My Wildest Dreams in 1994. The label soon folded, and the singles released from the album, didn't do much.RCA's Joe Galante took an interest in Chesney, and signed him to BNA (an affiliate of RCA), and purchased the masters to Kenny's debut album. Kenny's first album on BNA, All I Need to Know was much more successful, earning him two Top 10 songs. His sophomore release with BNA, Me and You got him even closer to that elusive No. 1 song, as the title track peaked at No. 2.

Third Time is the Charm

The saying "the third time is the charm" did indeed prove to be true for Kenny in 1997, as his third BNA release, I Will Stand finally got him his first No. 1 song.

Things really picked up with the 1999 release, Everywhere We Go earned him two more No. 1 songs, with "How Forever Feels," and "You Had Me From Hello." The album became Chesney's first Platinum release.

Kenny's Island Theme

In 2000, he released his Greatest Hits album, followed by the first of several albums with an island feel to them in 2002, No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems

The island-theme was well-accepted, and if it ain't broke... Kenny followed with When The Sun Goes Down,, Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair, and by 2006, he had racked up over 25 million in sales, and won the ACM Entertainer of the Year for the first time (he's currently the reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year).
