Little Big Town Biography:

Kimberly Roads and Karen Fairchild met in 1987, while attending Samford University. Jimi Westbook was a friend of Karen's husband, and he joined the girls, and they began performing as a trio. It wasn't until 1998, when Phillip Sweet joined the band, that they became Little Big Town.

Several False Starts

The group was signed to Mercury Records, but arguments about musical direction were the reason no singles were ever released.

Next, they moved to Monument Records, home of The Dixie Chicks They released their first single, "Don't Waste My Time," in the winter of 2002, and then their album Little Big Town followed in May 2003. One other single, "Everything Changes" was released, but neither of the singles flew up the charts, and the group was let go from the label.

A New Start with Equity Music

In 2005, the group signed with Clint Black's label, Equity Music. The first single was "Boondocks," which made its way slowly up the charts, eventually peaking at No. 8. Their debut album on Equity, The Road to Here, came out in October 2005.

The second single off the album, "Bring It On Home," did even better, peaking at No. 4. Two other singles were also Top 20 hits.

In 2007, A Place to Land was released, along with the debut single, "I'm With the Band." In April 2008, the band announced it was leaving Equity for Capitol Records.

The second single, "Fine Line," was released from A Place to Land, and Capitol announced they'd be re-issuing the album with some new tracks in November 2008.

Little Big Town won the ACM New Duo/Group award in 2007, and is nominated at the 2008 CMA Awards for Vocal Group, and Musical Event of the Year, with Sugarland and Jake Owen, for their part in "Life in a Northern Town," which was performed during the CMT Change for Change Tour.

The band is on the road with Carrie Underwood in 2008 to support A Place to Land.
