It's week three on Nashville Star, and The Charlie Daniels Band opens the show singing "The Intimidator," which is a song about Dale Earnhardt.
After the opening credits roll, we are introduced to the Nashville Star finalists. (Oh wow, looks like Christy has tamed her hair a bit. It's not so wild and wacky.) LeAnn welcomes us to "Outlaws and Rebels Night," saying that all but one of the finalists will be performing tonight. We will find out later whose dream will be shattered and who will live to sing another day. (Is it just me, or does LeAnn seem to love saying that someone's dreams are going to be shattered when they're kicked off?)
LeAnn asks everyone to give it up once more for The Charlie Daniels Band. Then, it's time to meet all the finalists, who LeAnn calls "the real stars" of the show. After each finalist has had their camera close-up, we are then introduced to the judges. We also find out that tonight is Bret Michaels' birthday.
LeAnn looks over at the finalists and picks out Justin and says, "Justin. You look at little nervous. Are you nervous or are you calm. What's going on?"
Justin: "It's kinda like being a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs right now."
LeAnn: "Alright, I like that. I never thought I'd get that answer from you."
Getting down to business, LeAnn announces the first finalist to perform tonight. And that person is: Jenny Farrell.
In Jenny's pre-recorded segment she talks about the tension level rising as they're in a competitive environment. And each Tuesday, you may be the one to pack your bags. She compares the competition to a horserace, saying she kinda stumbled coming out of the gate, so now she feels she has to catch up in the stretch.
Jenny sings "Lessons in Leavin'" originally recorded by Dottie West.
My thoughts: I think she sounds pretty good, but not as good as last week. She does work the stage though, which I like. I give her an 8 out of 10.
LeAnn: "Last week you had to wait the entire show to find out if you were moving on. How does it feel to kick things off tonight?"
Jenny: "Hallelujia, I went first."
The Judges Comments:
Anastasia- "Jenny, you did great, and I'm so happy that you feel good today as well. I do think you're wound tight, and you need to breathe, and feel the music. I think you need to work on letting go."
Bret - "Jenny, you got this thing that is just crawling, 'Jonesing' to get out of you, right? And it's a good thing. My advice is what my dad said to me. Just take a shot to Jack Daniels before you come out here and let it fly. That's the best advice I can give you.'
Phil - "I thought you looked a lot more comfortable this time. I mean, definitely better than the last two times. You did better. But I mean, you surprised me. You really did great tonight. Absolutely. Good job."
Next, we find out that the second finalist is Jayron Weaver.
In Jayron's pre-taped segment, he talks about when he was growing up, he was always the tall and awkward guy. One day in Junior High he was sitting at the lunch table, and he started singing to himself, and he noticed that everyone at the lunch table had turned and they were listening to him. So from then on, instead of being the tall, awkward guy, he was the guy that sings.
Jayron has his guitar again and he chooses Travis Tritt's "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde." Oh wow, he's wearing black leather pants! Hot! AWESOME performance!! He really did it tonight. He gave lots of eye contact with the audience. The first two weeks, he had performed ballads, and I wondered how he'd be with an uptempo song, and he just knocked it out of the park. I think I have a new favorite. I give him 10 out of 10.
LeAnn: "When a cute little southern boy like you wants to ask a girl out, do you have a line?"
Jayron: "Ah, yes."
LeAnn: "What is it?"
Jayron: "I know milk does a body good, but dang girl, how much milk ya been drinkin'?"
LeAnn: "Jayron, do you have a girlfriend right now?"
Jayron: "I do not."
LeAnn: "Is that the reason?"
Jayron: "Probably."
LeAnn: "Probably."
The Judges Comments:
Phil - "Getcha one, boy. You'll have one after this. You might be the best singer in the whole competition. You really are. When you let yourself go...I mean I love you playing the guitar, man. You really did great. I mean you really connected tonight. Good job."
Anastasia- "I really agree with Phil. I'm so proud of you. You connected. You looked into our eyes like I asked you to."
Jayron - "It was your advice."
Anastasia- "I'm so proud of you. Good job, Jayron."
Bret - "I think, I will say this. I may possibly be looking at a Nashville Star right now. And there ain't nothing wrong with some Travis, I'll tell you that much right now. And you added your own style. It was great. Good job. Good job."
