Nashville Star 3 - Week Five

Originality is the Name of the Game

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

Jayron Weaver sings "She's Not The Kind.

Jayron Weaver sings "She's Not The Kind."

The finalists are back on the stage, and LeAnn calls Jayron over.
LeAnn: "If you don't hear your name called tonight, will you be shocked?"
Jayron: "If I what?"
LeAnn: "If you don't hear your name called tonight, will you be shocked?"
Jayron: "Um, I'll be very disappointed."
LeAnn: "I'm sure anyone will be, but you wouldn't be shocked?"
Jayron: "Um.."
LeAnn: "Don't answer it. Tricky question."

Ok, the fourth performer of the night, getting to perform is.... "Jayron Weaver."

In Jayron's pre-recorded message he says: "The song I'm doing tonight is called "She's Not the Kind." It's about a girl that I went to college with. And, we just kinda met, and we started hanging out together, and I really got to liking her. And, things just never really picked up with it. What's strange about this is, she's probably gonna be out there watching this. I mean, I hope she loves the song. But I also hope she's not freaked out, and thinks I'm a stalker."

LeAnn: "Pretty song. So, Jayron, what do you think the girl you wrote this about is sitting out there saying to herself right now?"
Jayron: "Um, hopefully she liked it."
LeAnn: "So, anything you want to say to her?"
Jayron: "We've actually already spoken."
LeAnn: "Oh, so it's a private matter?"
Jayron: "Somewhat."
LeAnn: "Ok. Let's see what the judges have to say."

Phil: "You know, I think it's probably the best song so far. The best singer. I just think you're the best singer. Period. I wanna see more emotion, dude. It's almost as if you're apologetic about being so good. I mean it's like. Give it to me. You can bring it. Is that right Bret? Bring it."
Bret: "You're blessed with a voice that just pulls people in, and I want to tell you something. This is an opportunity in front of millions and millions of people to get to bring it out there. And I tell you it's a great song. I'd love to hear you dive deeper. Give me a "Live Like You Were Dying." Give me a "Something To Believe In." I mean, dig in, you've got 'em man, go for it."
Anastasia: "I think your voice sounds like an angel from above, but I think I'd sign you to a Christian Record deal before a Country Record deal."
Bret: "Yep, yep."

Second to last performer of the night is... Jody Evans.

In Jody's pre-recorded message he says: "The song I'm singing tonight is called 'Chances.' And, it's a ballad that I wrote. The person that I wrote this song about, doesn't know it's about them, so really, this song's for everybody. 'Chances' is about the bad luck I think everybody's had to face at one time or another, in love. This is very different from what I've done in the show before and what I guess people have liked enough to keep me on the show. So, I'm taking a chance by singing Chances.'"

LeAnn: "Now, we know you're a police officer, and we now know you can sing a beautiful ballad. So, I'm just asking. Why don't you tell America something they don't know about you, and me too. What do I not know?"
Jody: "I don't know. You got the beatbox last week. You got the ballad this week. I don't know if there's anything left."
LeAnn: "No more trick?"
Jody: "I don't know if there's any rabbits left in my hat."
LeAnn: "Oh, you gotta find something."
Jody: "I'll find something."
LeAnn: "Let's see what the judges have to say."

Anastasia: "Jody, you know I think you're a true artist. But, tonight you were pitchy. You look scared, and I'm worried you're going to get voted off the island. So, do better next time."
Jody: "If I'm allowed to, I will.. I'll try."
Bret: "You know, here's what I think. I'm an idiot, because in the beginning, I wanted to get this other person out of you. And I like the old Jody, man. I like the old Jody that just came out and owned it. So, I'm an idiot if I try to get you to change, 'cause you rock, dude. Just give me more of that uptempo stuff."
Phil: "I think you're stylish, and unique. There's something different about you. I just love what you do. I don't know if it's my favorite song, but I just think you're great."

We go back to Cledus backstage talking to Tamika and Erika Jo.
Cledus: "Do you think the reason you're standing here is maybe a direct response from some of the comments last week?"
Tamika: "Maybe. Just maybe. Yeah, I guess."
Cledus: "Alright, Erika Jo. Do you think a lot of this was just blown out of context? What do you think about it? Now's your chance."
Erika Jo: "I think it was. I think it was made into a bigger deal than it really was."
Cledus: "Well, I wish you both the best of luck. Alright, LeAnn, we'll see what happens."
