USA Network

The second finalist to perform is:

Joshua Stevens.

"He reads the card with his song choice I'm in a Hurry, and Don't Know Why by Alabama. I'm taking 'I'm in a hurry' and I'm giving it a more contemporary beat to it. I think Randy's gonna like it. I don't think he would want me to do it just like them. I think he's gonna wanna hear something new, and he's gonna want to hear my stamp on it. I'm not going to look at Randy when I'm singing, and when I'm done, I probably won't look at Randy. I think it's great that the judges are picking our songs. I think a true artist will just embrace that. Take whatever song it is, and make it there own ."

Blake: Joshua, the first time that I ever heard you sing, you might remember, I was afraid that you weren't going to get enough air, and pass out. So, I picked that song for you, because I thought it would be funny for you to do a song that would actually cause you to pass out on the stage, because there is no time for you to breathe. But, jokes on me. Great performance. Made the song your own. Awesome.
Anastasia: Last week I asked you to work on your pitch problems, and you corrected them 100%. I like the arrangement. Really good job. I just don't know that you're our Nashville Star winner. But, you have improved.
Randy: Joshua, I know why you slowed the song down a little bit. 'Cause it's almost impossible to sing, and keep your breath going. I love the stinger that you did on the five. That was beautiful. I know how difficult that song is to sing. And, I think the people should give you a tremendous round of applause for that right there.

Jewel: So, tell me, were you nervous this great song in front of the great man?
Joshua: I'm very nervous. I mean, Randy's sitting right there.
Jewel: It was a little bit cruel, almost, you devil you *points at Blake* So, tell me, I know that you worked up this arrangement yourself. What was your week like leading into this?
Joshua: I opened up the envelope and I saw it, and I immediately started thinking about what I needed to do with it, to make it my own. And, I think I did it.
Jewel: We think you did too. Joshua Stevens, everybody.

My thoughts: I like his version. Like he said in his video, it's not just like Alabama performed it, but he does put his own stamp on the song. Great job.
