John Michael Montgomery Says Medical Condition Affected NASCAR Performance

John Michael Montgomery has released a statement refuting rumors that his performance at a recent NASCAR race was affected by alcohol use. Montgomery performed in Atlanta at NASCAR’s Nextel Cup race earlier this month. Montgomery blames the incident on a medical condition, acoustic neuroma, which affected his hearing and balance.

“Everyone has good days and bad days and it's no different for singers,” said Montgomery via his website. “Unfortunately my bad day was televised. Based on lack of information, many of you assumed that my less than perfect performance was alcohol related, and I understand how it may have appeared that way.”

Montgomery said his prognosis is good and he doesn’t expect his treatment to affect his touring schedule.
