Marthia Sides – CMT “Popularity Contest” Contestant More Than What You See On TV
Country music artist Marthia Sides is currently vying for the attention of the townsfolk of Vega, TX on CMT’s new original series “Popularity Contest.” But there is so much more to this New York City opera singer than what you see on TV. Virginia-native Sides has an impressive background, boasting a music degree from Hartt School of Music in Cambridge, MA, later going on to earn her masters of music degree in Boston; musical performances benefiting The Lupus Foundation and Operation Smile; and multiple movie and television appearances including Sex and the City, Castle Rock Pictures’ Two Weeks Notice, and Comedy Central’s Gram Norton Effect to name a few.
Having spent the majority of her life in Virginia Beach, her current reside in Vega, TX was a slight departure from Sides’ daily way of life. “One of the things I love about living in Vega is the sense of community. Making a return from a nearly three-year break, multiple Grammy award-winning Trisha Yearwood surprised a packed house at Monday’s CMT Music Awards with the performance of her new single, “Georgia Rain.” The single impacts radio on April 25.
Trisha Yearwood’s first 10 years as a recording artist produced 10 MCA Nashville albums, including four certified Gold Records, six Platinum awards, including a Double Platinum seller and a Quadruple Platinum blockbuster.
Jasper County, Yearwood’s eleventh and newest album, releases September 13.
Lorrie Morgan, Sammy Kershaw, John Conlee, Jamie O’Neal Star at Benefit Concert at Wildhorse Saloon
Lorrie Morgan. Sammy Kershaw, John Conlee and Jamie O’Neal will perform at a concert at the Wildhorse Saloon June 6 that will benefit research into an “orphan” ailment that affects thousands of children and adults. The stars will lend their talents to helping the Lymphatic Research Foundation (LRF) raise money to fund studies into lymphedema and other lymph diseases that often strike women recovering from breast cancer.
“This disease also strikes small children, whose limbs become enlarged because of the lymph-related problems, which create life-threatening issues,” says Calina Burns, vice president of Nashville record distribution and promotion firm CBuJ Enterprises, Inc. Burns, who is a lymphedema patient and a member of the Board of Directors of the LRF, says country music stars have been “amazingly supportive” of efforts to combat this cruel disease. More...
Sara Evans Returns To Host Usa Network's Nashville Star On April 19, Filling In For Leann Rimes, Still Sidelined By Vocal Cord Injury
Nashville Star, USA Network's grassroots talent search reality series to find the next country music superstar, continues its third season on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 10:00 PM (ET/PT)/9:00 CT on USA Network. Sara Evans returns to host the show, stepping in for LeAnn Rimes, who is still on vocal rest as the result of a broken blood vessel in one of her vocal cords. Bret Michaels gets the party started, kicking off the show singing the Poison classic, "Nothin' But a Good Time," with the contestants. He will also introduce his new single, "Open Road," later in the show. Superstar Tim McGraw offers career advice and wisdom to the contestants via a pretaped segment, and the contestants share highlights from their hometown concerts, which raised money for the American Red Cross. The audience will learn which contestant is eliminated based on the results of audience voting following the April 12 episode, leaving only three contestants to advance to the April 26 season finale.
