Being that it was the first day of CRS and having no idea what to expect, (I was a CRS virgin,) I thought it would be your typical buffet style boring ole lunch with some pretty nice entertainment going on after we ate. Not even close. The Performance Hall was elegantly cordoned off with curtains and carpet and really felt much more like we were in the center of a nice theater. The food? What can I say? It was served buffet style but was a far cry from anything boring. We dined on pulled pork and or turkey, all the trimmings and a very tasty peach cobbler for desert.
After being shown some video's of other artists on the label, The Bomshel show finally began. The lights had lowered and a slow steady stomp started. Visually, I thought the B52's had decided to pull together some members and start a country band. Musically though, these girls and their band belted out one heck of a song called, "Don't Water Down My Whiskey." Kristy was actually off stage on top of a small table in the middle of the audience giving it her all playing a red hot fiddle. She returned to the stage having never missed a beat playing the whole way there on the back of someone gracious enough to walk her through the audience and up to the stage. Vocally, Buffy was a powerhouse. These girls live up to their name. Their new single is due to be released on February 27th. Now for the name of it, I tried very hard to keep this straight and I hope I got it, it's something like, "It Was an Absolutely, Finger Lickin', Grits and Chicken Country Music Love Song." Be on the lookout for it. It's a really fun song. Oh and the girls? They are incredible!
Intermission was more video's. We were shown the new single coming out by Hank Williams Jr., VanZant, Big and Rich and Gretchen Wilson called, "That's How They Do It In Dixie," and we also got to watch the trailer for the new Tim McGraw movie coming out in July called, Flicka. Both look like something you will want to catch.
Headlining this luncheon was none other than Clay Walker. It seems as though he has been around forever but his show is as fresh as a spring daisy. We heard some old favorites like, "If I could Make A Livin'," and "I Can't Sleep," and his new song, "Where Do You Go When It Rains In Mexico." He told us the story of how this song came to be. He and a friend actually lived it. He also sang us a beautiful ballad, called "It Ain't Pretty."
Sadly, and before I knew it, this first event for me was over and it was time to hurry off to the next one. Thinking back on it now, it went so quickly and I wish we could have heard both acts for a little while longer. I hope to see them again very soon.
