On Wednesday night, February 15, Crook & Chase came onstage to introduce one of the major highlights of the Country Radio Seminar 2006. Keith Urban was in town to host the Music City Jam with some special friends and all in attendance were in for an evening that wont be forgotten soon. Keith opened the show with But For the Grace of God and the room roared with approval. Many of the major movers and shakers in the music industry along with thousands of radio personalities were there to see the show, and Keith did not disappoint anyone.
He sang a three song set before introducing his first special guest. And he did that by way of talking about specific guitar licks and how you can use those to make a song unique. As he was talking he was doing his thing with the guitar and talking about how you get that rhythm then add the other instruments around it. Just as people had the song figured out and started roaring their approval, Dolly Parton hit the stage singing her hit Jolene. Dolly is ageless and her personality lights up any stage she graces. She was talking with the audience and teasing Keith a little and her trademark giggle was infectious. Everyone was having a ball. Dolly and Keith sang Two Doors Down together before Dolly waved to the crowd and left the stage.
After another two song set from Keith, the strains of Glory Days was heard. When the lights came on, Pat Green was onstage singing the popular Bruce Springsteen song with Keith. After they rocked the house with that one, Pat sang his hit Wave on Wave and the audience did the wave along with him. After his two song set, he took a bow and exited the stage.
Keith did another three song set and then Ronnie Dunn (of Brooks & Dunn) hit the stage singing Brand New Man with Keith. The crowd went wild. After that, he had the ladies all rushing for their tissues when he turned his soulful voice on full power for I Believe. I dont know that there was a dry eye in the house. He has an amazing voice, and albums just dont do it justice.
Keith finished off the memorable evening with Somebody Like You. The crowd was still standing and clapping when Keith and his band took a final bow with hands clasped then walked offstage. It was an evening that will be hard to top in future years at CRS.
