Week of January 21, 2008
January 23, 2008 - What do you get when you take seven people from various genres of music other than country, including one who is known mainly as an actress, and you immerse them in all things country, and have them compete with each other to be the next country star? You get CMT's new series "Gone Country," hosted by John Rich, of the multi-platinum selling country duo Big & Rich.
The series features an eclectic cast of performers including:
- Bobby Brown R&B singer, former member of New Edition
- Carnie Wilson singer/songwriter, former member of Wilson Phillips and author
- Dee Snider radio personality, lead singer Twisted Sister
- Diana DeGarmo recording artist, Broadway actor and American Idol finalist, 2004
- Julio Iglesias Jr pop singer
- Maureen McCormick singer/actor, "The Brady Bunch"
- Sisqó R&B singer, former member of the group Dru Hill
In each episode the cast members compete against each other in challenges that will test their ability to adapt musically and physically to a country music lifestyle, both on and off stage. Each contestent is paired with two Nashville songwriters who will guide them in writing a song that they will debut in the series finale. No voting anyone off every week. In the end, the performer who is most ready to impress a country audience will record and release their song to country radio. John Rich will be the one who makes the determination as to who the winner will be.
Should be interesting. My money is on Diana DeGarmo. We have several other former American Idol finalists that have done well in country music. I think she could do really well too. But, you'll have to watch and see who John Rich thinks is the one that will walk away with the prize.
