Guide Review - Billy Yates - Anywhere But Nashville
After two major label record deals that resulted in one commercial album and a single, Billy Yates decided to leave the majors behind and take his career in his own hands. Featuring 16 strong country songs, some very traditional and others more contemporary, Anywhere But Nashville moves along at a steady pace and ends before you know it.Leading off the record is the title track. With a title of Anywhere But Nashville, one would expect the song to be a scathing commentary on Nashville. At first the song is but later turns out to be more of a homage to the city which has allowed Billy to have a nice songwriting career. This Song Doesnt Rock is an Alan Jackson flavored track that finds Billy almost ashamed of the contemporary sound. What Are We Thinkin is a great up-tempo track that asks what the heck has happened with the old ways of brotherly love and helpfulness. Blinded By The Bud Light, Alcohol Abuse and Im Just Drinkin are three of the best drinkin songs Ive heard in a long while. American Voices rounds out the record with a touching and true tale of all the different people who live in the USA and are Americans, despite what they look like.
If you are looking for a solid country album that never fails to deliver the goods, check out Billy Yatess Anywhere But Nashville. Fans of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Brad Paisley or just good, pure, honest country music will certainly appreciate everything that Billy represents.
