Guide Review - In My High School - Blaine Larson
18-year-old Buckley, WA native Blaine Larsen is like most high school seniors, hes enjoying his time as a student while waiting for graduation day to come. What separates Blaine from his classmates is the fact that hes signed to a record deal in Nashville. Other than his age, the thing that separates Blaine from the pack of newcomers is his voice and strong songwriting skills. The autobiographical The Best Man starts off the CD and tells a touching story about a man who enters Blaines family life and becomes the Dad he never had. The title track, and first single, In My High School is something that everyone who remembers their high school years will enjoy If Merle Would Sing My Song is a fine Skip Ewing/James Dean Hicks creation that tells of the struggles many go through while trying to get noticed in Nashville. Yessireebob is one of those songs that an 18-year-old boy should be singing. It playfully asks how a guy gets to be a towel holder for supermodels. How Do You Get That Lonely finds Blaine singing a soft, tear-inducing ballad that asks that asks how someone could be lonely enough to commit suicide.
With 10 tracks, Blaine Larsen presents himself as a confident singer/songwriter who should be going places. With a baritone voice that belies his age (much like Josh Turner), Blaine is like every high school senior in that hes ready to take on the world, only hes going to have a microphone and guitar to do it.
