Guide Review - Cowboy Cool - Royal Wade Kimes
Royal Wade Kimess last album, 2002s A Dying Breed, showcased a strong, important voice of cowboy music. On Cowboy Cool Royal Wade has 12 songs that add to his growing legacy. Of the 12 songs, 10 were written by Royal Wade with two strong covers being the bookends of the album.Ponies is the album opening track and Royal Wades country/folk vocal style really sets the mood of this soft song about a rancher whos the best at what he does, herd the ponies. Modern Day Drover is a fine truckin song that compares what the truckers do with that of drovers from the past. With its modern groove, Wild Love would fit in on a Chris LeDoux album. Feelin Stud is a humorous song about the foolishness men sometimes have when they feel like theyre invincible. Pretty and ethereal The White Horse is a tribute to Johnny Cash (Its sung not unlike the way Johnny sang over the years). Im A Cowboy pokes fun at the type of person who immerses themselves in to a way of life or style cause its cool. The album closing track is also one of the best covers of Bob Dylans Knockin On Heavens Door that Ive ever heard. Hopefully country radio will embrace this single.
With 12 great country songs, some running the gamut of styles, Royal Wade Kimess Cowboy Cool is just that, a cool cowboy album. Fans of cowboy music, the lifestyle or just pure country music should check the CD out.
