Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry reviewer Jolene Downs gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2002.
Ronnie is well known for his high-energy shows and awesome audience connection. He has a great sense of humor, & you can hear the laughter from the audience in between many of the songs. The album is packed with a lot of old favorites.
This is Dolly's third album from Sugar Hill Records. It is titled "Horns and Halos," and with that title and Dolly singing - you know you are in for a treat from the start. This is a definite must for any album collection. Dolly is definitely on top of her game and she sounds spectacular.
The album contains the Top 5 singles, with "Long Time Gone," and "Landslide," and a cover of Bruce Robison's "Travelin' Soldier." Add to that a spirited instrumental named for Natalie's son, "Little Jack Slade," and you have another winning album.
Due to the high energy level on the majority of the songs, this is a great party CD. As the title suggests, there is some terrific fiddle music, and it's impossible to not tap your toes with the songs.
Eddy Raven is releasing another "Live" album, and it is readily apparent that he is still very much a contender in his field. He offers a great selection of songs during this live show, from the slow ballad all the way up to some fast paced Cajun music.
This is an album that is fun to listen to and will be something that will be played many times over. What I like about Montgomery Gentry is that they have such a rowdy image, yet they can still belt out songs like "Break My Heart Again." Expect the unexpected with these guys, and enjoy it all the way.
With fun songs like "I'll Take Love Over Money," and "If Her Lovin' Don't Kill Me," as well as his duet with Thea "Love Like There's no Tomorrow," Aaron keeps putting out great country music.
Tanya is still very much a contender in the field. She still has the Tanya 'sass' and the maturity to do justice to the several beautiful ballads she chose to record for this project. It will be a welcome addition to your country music collection.
For this album Kathy Mattea has explored her long love of the Celtic sound and paid tribute to her folk roots that first led her to perform in the music field. This album features several instruments, including Celtic whistles, fiddle, guitar, concertina and harmonium.
The album will definitely take the listener back to the days when all an artist needed was their voice & some acoustic instruments. It's a refreshing change from the electric sounds of today, which oftentimes drowns out the artist vocals. Long-time artists The Jordanaires lend their vocal talents on several songs.
