This comeback attempt from
Bobby Bare featured spaced-out arrangements that hewed closer to the idiosyncratic music of
his son, Bobby Bare Jr., than his own back catalog. No wonder: Bare Jr. produced the album along with Mike Nevers, of the alt-country group Lambchop.
The Moon Was Blue didn't make a dent on the country music charts. But it's worth checking out for its superb version of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'" and the existential heartbreaker "I Am an Island."
